Ross McElroy is a professional geologist with over 30 years of experience in the mining industry. Mr. McElroy received a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, with a Specialization in Geology from the University of Alberta in 1987 and is a registered professional geologist in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Nunavut/Northwest Territories. Mr. McElroy is the winner of the PDAC 2014 Bill Dennis award for exploration success and the Northern Miner ‘Mining Person of the Year 2013’ and the recipient of numerous other recognized and prestigious awards and accolades. He has comprehensive experience in several commodities with working and managing multiple stages of mineral projects from grass roots exploration through discovery and growth, to feasibility and production. Over his career, Mr. McElroy has held senior positions with both major and junior mining companies, which include BHP Billiton, Cameco, Orano Group, Fission Energy and Fission Uranium.
Mr. McElroy has been and remains very active in the uranium sector where he has enjoyed unprecedented success in the Athabasca Basin, the world’s premiere location of high-grade uranium deposits. Early in his career he was a key team member of the early stage discovery of the MacArthur River deposit, the world’s largest high-grade uranium deposit that was brought into production in 1999. He was a key part of the hugely successful Fission Energy Corp. team where as President, COO and Chief Geologist he headed up the technical team that made the 2010 discovery of the J Zone uranium deposit at Waterbury Lake, SK. In 2013, he headed up the technical team that made the discovery of the Triple R high-grade uranium deposit on the PLS project, SK for which he was awarded the highly coveted PDAC 2014 Bill Dennis award for exploration success. Mr. McElroy continues in his role as President, COO and Chief Geologist for Fission Uranium Corp.
Mr. McElroy has also had a successful career in the search, discovery and development of other commodities including gold and diamonds. He was Senior Geologist for BHP Billiton where in the 1990’s he was co-manager of BHP’s vast Hope Bay Gold Project, located in Nunavut, Canada on which the team discovered and advanced 3 major high-grade gold deposits, including Doris, Madrid and Boston gold deposits. He directed the initial underground development at Boston. TMAC Resources, the present owners of the Hope Bay Project, brought the Doris project into commercial production in 2017.
